5 Ways to Bug-proof Your Home

Bugs are a nuisance. They can make you feel uncomfortable in your own home or they can actually give you a dangerous and even deadly disease.

You need to do everything in your power to bug proof your home. Despite there being more than 900 thousand different kinds of insects in the world, it is not as difficult as it sounds to bug proof your home:

  • Inspect Your Home

The first thing you need to do is get a reputable pest control service in to evaluate your home. They will perform two critical functions for you.

The first is to establish where your home is vulnerable. They can then leave you to rectify the issues or can even do it for you; of course there will be a charge!

The second role is to check whether you already have any bugs living in your home. Bugs can range from wood boring insects, such as termites to mice, cockroaches and even the tiny bed bug. Knowing they are there will allow you to deal with and eliminate them; while you bug proof your home for the future.

  • Seal The Cracks

You need to go round the outside of your hoe and seal any crack you can see. It doesn’t matter how small it is, a bug will be able to get through it and make your home their own.

As an added benefit sealing cracks can help the heat to stay inside your home which will reduce your energy bills!

It is important to pay particular attention to the windows and doors, cracks often appear in the frames through extensive use.

  • Add Screens

It is unlikely that you’ll never open your doors or windows. But, every time that you do you are creating the perfect opportunity for several bugs to get into your home.

You can prevent the bugs from getting inside by adding mesh screening. The holes in this prevent bugs from getting through but you can still see through it.

  • Keep It Clean

Bugs are attracted to warm areas with food and water. By cleaning up after you eat and ensuring that all your food is stored in sealed containers you are depriving the bugs of a food source.

This will make your home much less inviting and generally persuade them to go elsewhere.

It is important to remember that a tiny crumb may seem like nothing to you but it could be a feast for a bug. The best idea is to wipe all the sides down with an anti-bacterial spray.

  • Under Doors

When you are sealing all the cracks it can be easy to forget the gaps at the bottom of your doors. You can’t seal these shut!

But, you can add under door brushes which will prevent any bugs from getting into your home.

Preventing entry is important. However, if you discover you already have an issue or are struggling to keep the bugs out then you should find out more about the best firms near you.
